Some gunmen stormed Benin City on Valentine’s Day, abducting a Catholic priest and a few children.
Catholic priest kidnapped File photo The Nation notes that gunmen in Benin City have abducted a Catholic priest serving in the Uromi Diocese, Father Nicholas Oboh.
In a statement posted on his facebook page, Chancellor Uromi Diocese, Rev Father Osi Odenore said that Father Oboh was abducted on Valentine’s day but was not referring to the location where the abduction took place.
He had called for prayers for Father Oboh’s release.
“We are certain that he is alive and steps have been taken since the incident to ensure that Rev Father Nicholas Oboh is released without harm.” Some children have also been kidnapped in the Umelu community in the local government area of Ikpoba-Okha.
It was learned that there were armed robbers robbing residents in the area and had taken four children along.
Sources in the region said one of the kid abducted was released after the parents paid the N2 m amount.
Many parents have opened talks with the abductors, the sources said.
DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, spokesman for the Edo State Police, said he was not briefed on the incidents.
