Mr. Japheth Yohana was strangled to death on Saturday at a hotel on the road to the refinery, in the Sabo area of Kaduna City.
Tina, a family member of the deceased who had contacted and narrated the incident, said that Yohana had been married on Saturday but had been found dead in a hotel room.
Video footage from the hotel revealed that Yohana’s ex-girlfriend, who broke up six months ago, was the last one to visit him in the hotel room.
Tina, however, said that the family and the hotel management had reported the incident to the police, while the ex-girlfriend had since left her residence around the Army Command School on the Refinery Road.
The deceased, dated the ex-girlfriend 9 years from college, and left her to marry another lady from the state of Adamawa, we learned.
Joseph Yohana, the immediate younger brother of the deceased, told us on Sunday morning that the family had been thrown into mourning and shock at the death of his brother.
However, he vowed to ensure that those who killed his brother were arrested and brought to justice.
Roseline, who was to marry Yohana, collapsed and was taken to an undisclosed hospital by her father, who is said to have been a successful businessman.
Mr. Lucky Anzaku, Yohana’s best man, who spoke to us, said his friend was strangled early on Saturday. “I left him in his room at about 1:00 a.m., and it was a shock to find him dead when I returned at 5:00 a.m.
The dead body has since been taken to the mortuary while the family is preparing for its burial.
Mr. Richmond, the hotel manager, when contacted by us, confirmed the incident, but said that Yohana may have died of a heart attack, noting that there is nothing to show that he was strangled.
